Clay Launch (2012)

Charlestown, Cornwall

Over the period of one year, six small boats, made from China Clay paper and holding a cargo of China Clay were launched into the sea at Charlestown. This former port was a big exporter of China Clay during the 19th and 20th century. Clay Launch commemorated those vessels which departed Charlestown and were later reported to have foundered. Each of the six boats was launched on the anniversary date of their sinking.
