Clay Launch (2012)
Over the period of one year, six small boats, made from China Clay paper and holding a cargo of China Clay were launched into the sea at Charlestown. This former port was a major exporter of China Clay during the 19th and 20th century. The project, which involved carrying each boat to the water’s edge via a narrow slipway, commemorated those vessels which departed Charlestown and were later reported to have foundered. Each of the six boats was launched on the anniversary date of their sinking.
